Greener Cleaner

Audrey rolling around the floor and being so close to exploring the world on her hands and knees has given me a new perspective on my cleaning practices. I've always been a little bit of a germ freak, especially with Audrey, but I am becoming more aware of what I put on the surfaces in our house that she is and will soon be touching. I have always heard that vinegar is a great cleaner. We've used it for various things around the house, like cleaning the coffee maker and cleaning the limescale from a faucet. But I've done a little checking and vinegar can be used for all sorts of things. So, at Sams Club today, we bought a big jug of vinegar and I am already putting it to good use. I found this website that gives you all sorts of tips on what to clean with it: Vinegar Tips - Cleaning with Vinegar. I just went outside and sprayed vinegar around the base of the doors to prevent ants from coming in. They haven't made it in yet, but I have seen them outside the doors for the last several days, so this is preventative!:) I'll let you know what works for us!

  1. Ash,
Vinegar and baking soda is pretty much all I clean with at our house and it works beautifully!! I have also bought a bottle of Castile Soap (which is pure and very, very non-toxic) and mix it in with the vinegar and water spray which makes it smell a lot better than just the vinegar and gives the cleaning power a little boost. The recipe I used is 2 Tbsp. vinegar, 1/4 c. castile soap (lavendar scented), and 2 c. boiling water. Put it into a spray bottle and use on EVERYTHING! It's so much better than the other stuff! I use baking soda to clean our tub and to soak pots and pans that have stuff stuck to them. It will save you a lot of money too!! Hope you guys are doing well!!! Audrey is growing so fast!

    Love you!
